Guidelines for writing descriptions
General principles
The description should be informative and contain factual information about the property, such as location details, nearby attractions, and amenities. Avoid subjective statements like “stunning views,” “gourmet cuisine,” or “top-notch service” — these can create unrealistic expectations, since different guests have different tastes and preferences.
Time and distance references
Do not estimate distances in terms of time, such as “5 minutes’ walk from Red Square,” as this may not be accurate — people walk at different speeds.
Structure of the description
Information is clearer and easier to find when the text is structured in bullet points. We recommend organizing the description in three main points:
Location
On the property (services and amenities available throughout the property)
In the room (amenities available in rooms)
Format and content
Avoid using Caps Lock for any words, including the property name. Text written in all capital letters looks less professional, is harder to read, and may be perceived as shouting or aggressive.
Do not include information on discounts, banking details, links, or phone numbers in the property description.
Additional Information
All the details, such as check-in/check-out policies, booking and prepayment requirements, transfer and parking information, meal surcharges, extra beds, or pet policies should be listed in the “Additional information” section. Do not add them to the main description.
Services and amenities mentioned in the description
If you want to highlight a specific amenity or service, make sure the corresponding details are filled out in your account:
Amenities. For example, if you want to mention a restaurant, go to “Hotel” → “Amenities” and check the “Restaurant” box. This will automatically add restaurant information to the description and the “Services and amenities” section on the property’s page on Ostrovok.
Deposit. To specify the deposit amount, go to “Hotel” → “Policies” → “Deposit”.
Pets. In “Hotel” → “Policies” → “Pet Policy”, check “Pets allowed” and add any necessary fees.
Meals. If breakfast or other meals are not included in the rate, but are available at an extra charge, specify this in “Hotel” → “Policies” → “Meals charged on site”.
Please note: after making any changes, it may take up to 30 hours for the description to update.
